Pune: This year's Raksha Bandhan, observed on Monday, August 19, can be celebrated at any time during the day, according to Mohan Date of “Date Panchang.” There is no need to adhere to specific auspicious timings for the festival.

Date explained that traditionally, Raksha Bandhan involved more than just tying rakhi; it included performing a Raksha Hom (protective ritual) and tying a Raksha Sutra (protective thread) to the king.

However, for those observing the festival in a more traditional manner, it is advised to avoid performing it during Bhadrakal (an inauspicious period).

For Raksha Purnima, there is no requirement to avoid Bhadrakal when tying rakhi, and no special muhurat is needed.

As Raksha Bandhan is a social and familial event rather than a ritualistic one like weddings or housewarmings, it can be celebrated at any time convenient for the participants throughout the day.

Date Panchang does not specify a particular time for the festival. Nevertheless, those wishing to observe the festival strictly should do so after 1:33 PM, when Bhadrakal ends.

The festival, which emphasizes social harmony among siblings, friends, and community members, is encouraged to be celebrated with enthusiasm.

The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has also decided to roll out an additional 91 buses this Raksha Bandhan, bringing the total number of buses on the roads to 1,852. PMPML administration anticipates a significant increase in passenger numbers during the festival.
