Pune: A senior officer at the Meteorological Department in Shivajinagar allegedly attacked a junior employee by throwing a paperweight at him after the employee requested to leave work on time.

The incident, which took place on August 19, 2024, has sparked significant tension within the department, leading to the employee union filing an official complaint against the officer.

The incident occurred on Rakhi Purnima, a day when many employees sought to leave work early to celebrate the festival with their families.

According to sources, the junior employee had initially requested permission to leave at 5 PM, but was asked by the senior officer to stay longer.

After waiting for an additional hour and receiving urgent calls from home, the employee made a second request from a distance, which allegedly angered the officer.

In a fit of rage, the officer threw a paperweight at the employee, who managed to avoid being hit. The officer reportedly did not stop there, also causing minor injuries by scratching the employee's hand.

There were rumors that the officer was relieved of his duties. Five days after the incident, on Friday, August 23, rumors began circulating that the officer had been relieved of his duties.

When contacted, various employees and officers within the Meteorological Department confirmed that the incident had indeed occurred but requested anonymity, stating that it was an internal matter. The employees also mentioned that the issue had been resolved amicably.
