Pune: In a major breakthrough in the Swargate MSRTC bus rape case, a scientific forensic examination has provided key insights into why the victim’s cries for help were not heard outside the bus.

The Pune police conducted a technical sound test inside the air-conditioned MSRTC bus, where the crime took place. The findings confirm that the victim resisted the attack and screamed for help, but her voice was completely muffled due to the bus's sealed windows and AC system.

The accused, Dattatray Gade, allegedly raped a 26-year-old woman inside a government bus parked at Swargate ST bus terminal before fleeing. After an intense 70-hour manhunt, Pune police successfully arrested him from Shirur.

The operation to capture Gade was extensive, involving 13 police teams, drone surveillance, and canine search units. Further investigation has revealed that Gade is a repeat offender, with multiple criminal cases registered against him in Pune and Ahilyanagar districts, including theft, robbery, and chain snatching.

Forensic Investigation Findings

The forensic examination was conducted to determine whether the victim’s screams could be heard from outside the bus. Tests confirmed that the sound was blocked, as the bus had tightly shut windows and was fully air-conditioned.
