Uber Names MDI Gurgaon Alum Balaji Krishnamurthy as New CFO

Balaji Krishnamurthy, who is presently Uber's Vice President of Strategic Finance, is set to take on the position of Chief Financial Officer starting February 16.

Uber Technologies has named Balaji Krishnamurthy, who is of Indian descent, as its new Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Krishnamurthy, who has been with the company for six years, is presently the vice president of strategic finance and investor relations. He is expected to take on this new position starting February 16, succeeding Prashanth Mahendra-Rajah.

Who is Balaji Krishnamurthy?

He is a firm advocate for the company's self-driving ride-hailing initiatives. During the company's fourth-quarter earnings call, Krishnamurthy mentioned that Uber plans to invest in autonomous vehicle software partners.

Balaji Krishnamurthy, the incoming CFO, stated that following five years of growth exceeding 20%, the company is starting 2026 with significant momentum and is well-positioned to meet its three-year growth and profit projections.

He stated, "With substantial and increasing free cash flows, in the years ahead, we will strategically invest in a variety of opportunities, including preparing Uber to succeed in an autonomous vehicle future."

His LinkedIn profile indicates that he earned a BE in electronics and communications from Manipal Institute of Technology. He furthered his education at Copenhagen Business School and subsequently obtained an MBA from the Management Development Institute in Gurgaon.

Krishnamurthy began his professional journey as an area manager before transitioning to a role as a research analyst. He spent 8 years as a vice president at Goldman Sachs.

He became a senior manager at Uber in 2019 and was recently promoted to the position of Chief Financial Officer.

In a regulatory filing, Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi expressed gratitude towards the departing CFO, stating, 'I want to thank Prashanth for all his contributions to Uber. He has been instrumental in achieving our investment-grade status, leading our initial share buyback program, and guiding us through numerous significant acquisitions. We all wish him success in his exciting new venture, which he will reveal more about shortly.'
