On Monday, Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) MP Supriya Sule called on India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and the Indian Embassy in Saudi Arabia to urgently assist 41 Indian nationals from Bhokardan, Maharashtra, who have been left stranded in Riyadh after their Akasa Air flight to Mumbai was abruptly cancelled.
According to Sule’s post on X, 41 Indian nationals from Bhokardan in Maharashtra are currently stuck in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, after their Akasa Air flight to Mumbai was abruptly cancelled.
The Indian Embassy in Riyadh promptly stated that it is actively investigating the issue and working in coordination with the airline.
We are coordinating with Akasa Air, Madam, and will provide all necessary assistance," the embassy stated in its reply.
Supriya Sule also posted the names of the affected passengers on social media. In a recent statement, Akasa Air said it is continuing to operate flights between Jeddah and multiple Indian cities, including Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Kochi, and Kozhikode.
In a statement on X, the airline said, "Based on our ongoing safety evaluation and an assessment of the current situation in the Middle East, we are continuing to operate flights to and from Jeddah as well as Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Kochi and Kozhikode. In addition, we are gradually reviewing the possibility of resuming flights to and from Abu Dhabi."
However, it also specified that flights operating to and from Doha, Riyadh, and Kuwait will continue to be suspended until April 12, with timetables potentially changing in response to the evolving situation.
