1 held for assaulting ST bus passengers in city

Pune: The passengers of a State Transport (ST) bus were allegedly assaulted and threatened with a pistol by 8-10 persons at Patil Estate on Tuesday. They had also pelted stones, which damaged the front glass of the bus. An FIR in this regard has been registered with Khadki police station.

The bus driver, Sandip Babu Pagare (30), of Nashik, has lodged the complaint.
 
According to the police, the incident took place at around 4 pm near the bridge on the old Mumbai-Pune Highway. Pagare was driving the bus from Shivajinagar to Nashik, when two youths, Mehendi Kambar Irani and Hassan Munna Irani, blocked the path with their motorcycle near Patil Estate slum. They damaged the glass with stones.

Soon, 6-7 men and women also entered the bus and started abusing and beating the passengers. One of them, Mariyam Shaikh, took out a country-made pistol like object and threatened the passengers.
Police have arrested Zameer Kambar Irani (19) and booked Mehendi Kambar Irani, Hassan Munna Irani, Jainab Fida Irani, all residents of Mahatma Gandhi Vasahat, Irani Vasti, in Shivajinagar, Mariyam Salim Shaikh of Patil Estate slum and 6-7 other persons.

PSI Vaishali Ajgekar is further investigating the case. Police have charged them for offences 353 (obstructing public servant from discharging official duty), 341 (wrongful restraint), 504 (intentional insult), 506 (criminal intimidation), unlawful assembly, rioting under the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the Criminal Law Amendment Act, and Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act.
