1,000 beneficiaries added to welfare schemes

Sakal Times

Pune: Officials of the district collectorate have managed to add 1,000 beneficiaries in several welfare schemes of the government which had no takers.

After the government officials failed in creating awareness about such schemes and the district performing poorly with many such schemes having zero takers, District Collector Saurabh Rao started a two-month campaign to create awareness of such schemes.

Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, Rao said that after a month's campaign around 1,000 beneficiaries were provided with benefits of various government schemes.

"43 divorced women, 315 destitute women and several others are been added to the schemes," added Rao.

Rao said people belonging to below poverty level group, disabled persons, retired commercial sex workers, eunuchs and others have different welfare schemes, but the funds remain unutilised.

This has forced the officials to run the awareness campaigns from November 15, 2017 to January 15, 2018, he added.
