ST CORRESPONDENT

PUNE: In a tragic incident, a 12-year-old boy allegedly died after falling from the terrace of his building when his leg slipped while flying a kite. The incident took place around noon on Wednesday in Katraj. The building had eight floors.

The deceased was identified as Om Dhananjay Atkare, a resident of Homi Park in Gokulnagar, Katraj. He studied in Std VI.

His father runs a canteen at a college. The family had shifted to their new flat a few months ago.

According to the police, on Wednesday Om did not go to school as he woke up late and there was a programme in his school.

Om and his brother Aditya were flying a kite on the terrace of the building, some portion of which is still under construction. After their mother called them to come home to eat, Aditya returned while Om stayed back to fly the kite. After sometime, his mother sent Aditya to call him. However, Om was not there and only his kite and manja (string used to fly kite was found).

Later Aditya saw Om had fallen down. He alerted his parents, who rushed Om to a nearby hospital, where he was declared brought dead.
