Pune: Swachh Pune Swachh Bharat conducted a mega event of cleanliness, beautification and plantation drive on Sunday. More than 1,400 volunteers contributed in 80 parts of Pune to clean filthy areas, paint the walls and pillars of flyovers and carry out plantation on hills.

The beautification drive was conducted at six-Pune Municipal Corporation-run schools -Vasantada Patil Prathmik School in Baner, Vidyaniketan Number 8 in Kothrud, Ahilyabai Holkar School in Aundh, Kai Sou Venutai Yashvantrao Chavan School in Sutarwadi, Hind English Medium School, Gurukool in Viman Nagar, Gurukulam School in Chinchwad and Samrat Ashok School in Karve Nagar.

Paper bills pasted on pillars and walls of six flyovers including BT Kawade, Dhayari, Varje, Gadital flyover at Hadapsar, Bhumkar Chowk at Wakad and flyover at Swargate were removed.

Puneet Sharma, founder of this mission, said, "Finally nature and city lovers came on the roads to make the city a better place to live in. The beautification drives on the walls and pillars of flyovers included abstract paintings. The Wanawadi wall and Hadapsar flyover were beautified with Warli paintings. This wouldn't have been possible without the material support by Rotary Club of Poona, Indigo Paints and SEED Infotech."

Hemant Jalan, Managing Director of Indigo Paints said, “For this mega cleanliness drive we donated 4 to 5 thousand litres of paint.”

Gauri Phalke, core team member of Swachh Pune Swachh Bharat said, “I have been working with the organisation since November 2015 and it has changed the meaning of my Sunday mornings. It  has become an addiction now to work with like-minded people for a cause.”
