PUNE: As per Divisional Commissioner Deepak Mhaisekar, about 18,000 people have left the city through Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) buses and around 8,000 people have come in the city.
After the announcement of holidays due to COVID-19 in the State, schools and colleges are shut and companies have asked their employees to work from home. Many people living in Pune for jobs and education now are going back home. On Saturday, thousands left the city for their homes by ST buses. “We have spoken with MSRTC officials and as per need more ST buses will be added to the fleet,” added Mhaisekar.
According to Divisional Controller of Pune MSRTC Yamini Joshi, “Thousands of passengers left the city on Saturday. All buses, especially from Pune to Aurangabad, Nashik, Beed, Kolhapur, Satara, Sangli, Latur and other places were full. However, the returning buses were empty.”
The Pune Division of MSRTC generated Rs 98.41 lakh revenue on Saturday. Last year on the same date Rs 91.77 lakh was generated, which means a difference of almost Rs 6.64 lakh.
As per data provided by MSRTC, from March 1 to 10 around Rs 10.38 crore revenue was generated.
