ST CORRESPONDENT

PUNE: A total of 248 cases of drink and drive were registered during the Holi festival on Friday across the city.

A maximum number of cases have been reported in the areas of Hinjewadi, Duttawadi and Yerawada.

The police conducted a drive to check drunken driving during the daytime in order to prevent any kind of unfortunate events and accidents on the occasion of Holi. The traffic police were deployed at 28 spots across the city. Daytime drinking happens on a large scale during Holi which many times leads to accidents.

Ashok Morale, DCP (Traffic), Pune police, said, “We conducted the drive and have booked cases against 248 people. We have booked them under Section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act and are going to cancel their licences. Daytime drinking is practised a lot during Holi, which is why we took this step in order to avoid mishaps. Most of the people who were booked were men. Only a few women were booked. Overall it was a successful drive.”
