Pimpri: The BSNL’s landline and other services which were disrupted in Pimpri and nearby areas after a digging operation undertaken by the municipal corporation were restored after 25 hours on Monday afternoon.

Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation’s (PCMC) Drainage Department had undertaken the digging work at Deluxe Chowk in Pimpri on Sunday. This damaged the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited’s underground optical fibre cables and disrupted BSNL’s services in Pimpri, Kalewadi, Rahatani and other areas from 3 pm on Sunday.

Computer operations in some banks and other offices were disrupted during this period.

Sources said services provided by the BSNL’s Pimpri Waghere telephone exchange to Pimpri and Kalewadi areas were affected during this period. The BSNL authorities had immediately undertaken the repair works and the disrupted services were restored at around 4 pm on Monday.

BSNL Junior Engineer Rohit Bodade said the damage to the optical fibre cable had disconnected around 5,000 connections. This affected banks’ computer works and also closed circuit television camera operations. The PCMC should have intimated the BSNL before undertaking the digging work, he said.
