Pune: According to data furnished by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), rainfall recorded across the country between August 3 and 9 was 29 per cent below the predicted Long Period Average (LPA).

Less rain in the past few weeks has also led to three per cent deficient rainfall in India as a whole with respect to the predicted average. Since June 1, central India has recorded two per cent less cumulative rainfall than the LPA followed by six per cent deficiency in the east and northeast India while peninsular India has a deficit of 18 per cent.

Only northwest India has recorded 11 per cent excess rainfall from June 1 till August 9. In the last week (August 3 to 9), the situation deteriorated further. Central India recorded 54 per cent deficient rainfall, along with northwest India, which recorded 22 per cent deficiency. South India recorded 17 per cent deficiency while east and northeast regions recorded eight per cent excess rainfall.
