PUNE: Due to release of water from the dams in Pune district and nearby areas, the power supply of nearly 30,000 consumers was discontinued on Monday as the feeder boxes went under water. Many consumers in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad area were badly affected. 

The water level in rivers crisscrossing the city increased on Monday compared to Sunday. The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) decided to shut transformers for the safety of consumers. The situations will take some time to resolve, said an MSEDCL officer.

The power supply was stopped since Sunday morning. Similarly, power supply in various areas was cut due to trees falling on wires and water entering feeder boxes.

According to the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL), as many as 9,000 consumers of Shivajinagar division were affected, which includes Aundh, Baner, Balewadi, Bavdhan, Khadki, Bopodi and PMC building complex. The water entered the feeder boxes and division had shut power supply of 65 transformers.

Similarly, in Pimpri division, the electricity supply of around 2,700 consumers was disrupted. The areas including Old Sangvi, Madhuban Colony, Pimple Gurav, Chinchwad, Sanjay Gandhi Nagar, Kasarwadi, Wakad, Kaspate Vasti, Pavana Nagar, Pimple Nilakh, Kalewadi were affected. The division shut 30 transformers. 

In Mulshi division, around 11,665 consumers were affected as power supply was suspended. The area includes the villages of Mulshi taluka, eastern part of Haveli, Urli Kanchan, Manjari, Ashtapur, Rihe, Paud, Lavale, Maan, Loni, Theur. The department shut 507 transformers in these areas. 

As per information, in the Bund Garden area, power supply was disrupted of around 650 consumers of Nagar Road, Vishrantwadi and Vadgaon Sheri.
