PUNE: Four persons including a history-sheeter have been arrested in connection with firing on a jailer near Yerwada Central Jail on Friday morning. The accused were unhappy with the jailor’s methods to discipline prisoners.  The accused had fired at jailor Mohan Patil (35) near the main gate of the prison. The bullet missed the jail officer. Later, he lodged an FIR with Yerwada police station.

According to the police, Patil is a resident of the jail officers quarters, located near the prison. He was walking towards the prison main gate for the jail opening duty when two persons on a bike intercepted him at around 6.15 am. One of the assailants fired at him, but Patil quickly moved away. He threw his umbrella towards them following the two assailants and their two accomplices fled.

Later, with the help of CCTV footages, the police zeroed in on the suspects and solved the case within 24 hours.  The accused persons have been identified as Nilesh Sambhaji Wadkar (34), Omkar Chandrakant Benuse (19), Hrishikesh Rajesh Chavan (19), and Kunal Kanade (19) of Janata Vasahat.  Police officials said that accused Nilesh Wadkar was lodged in the jail in a murder case.
