5 held for betting on cricket match

Pune: Five persons were arrested by the Nigdi police for allegedly being involved in betting for the Tamil Nadu Premier League cricket match on Tuesday evening.

The arrested accused have been identified as Navin Mittal (43), Rakesh Mehta (37), Pravin Pawar (36), Jakir Shaikh (29) and Javed Shaikh (47).

According to information given by the Nigdi police, a raid was conducted by the Nigdi police at Mittal Building in Sane Chowk where police found the accused indulging in betting in the cricket game and accordingly the accused were arrested. Police have seized laptops, notebooks, mobile phones etc. 

Assistant Police Inspector Yogesh Avhad has lodged a case against the accused and Assistant Police Inspector Devendra Chavan is investigating the case. The accused have been booked under Gambling Act.
