60-year-old held with explosives in Junnar

Pune: The Pune rural police have arrested a 60-year-old man in Junnar taluka and have seized bomb-making material, explosives and electric guns.

Acting on a tip-off, the police nabbed the accused identified as Rajaram Kisan Abhang from his home in Abhang Vasti in Pimplevandi area of Junnar. 

The police have recovered four pipe bombs, two electric gun machines functioning on electric current, two swords, two javelins, 59 detonators (four electric, 55 non-electric), one electric switch, one electric motor, one electric battery, iron sprinters, one helmet and one body armour. The dog squad also found explosive in the form of a powder, that was wrapped in an oily paper. However, the exact type of explosive will only be determined after tests.

Police Inspector Mujawar (Alephata police station) is further investigating the case to find out the motive behind holding the explosives. Also, since Abhang has studied only till Std VII, the police are probing to find out how he has learnt to make the explosives.

According to a press release issued by the police, Abhang has earlier also been booked for explosion back in 2003. He had allegedly exploded a bomb to kill a man whom he suspected to have an affair with his wife. The wife of the accused, a resident of the area Balasaheb Abhang and two children in the village were injured in the blast. The police found his record of a case under Sections 307, 436, 286 of Indian Penal Code registered in 2003 at Narayangaon police station. He has already served a sentence of three years at Yerawada Open Jail in this regard. Abhang’s wife and his two sons were estranged after this.

District Superintendent of Police Sandip Patil has announced a reward for police team involved in catching Abhang with explosives.
