Lured by gift voucher, 70-year-old man in Pune loses car and mobile phone

Pune: Dighi police on Friday lodged a case of cheating and theft against three unidentified people who stole a mobile phone and car of a 70-year-old person.

The incident took place on Pune-Alandi road on Thursday. Three people including a women posing as employees of a cellular service provider a cheated a 70-year-old of his car and mobile phone, accounting worth Rs 2.5 lakh.

The victim while informing the police said that he got a call from a woman, who called herself as an employee of a cellular service provider. She told the old man that his phone number was chosen for a gift voucher. She also informed the man that he could either collect the voucher physically or it could be sent to his residence.

The man in few days received a phone call from another person of the cellular service provider. The man asked him to urgently collect the gift from Charholi Phata.

When the septuagenarian reached the spot in his car he met two men at the location. The duo asked him to accompany them to a temple situated near.

The two persons went into the temple first and later sked the elderly to visit inside the temple. While, visiting the temple, the man left his keys and mobile in the car. Meanwhile, the duo fled from the scene.

The Dighi police is probing the matter further.
