Pune: Members of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), an international organisation working for alcohol de-addiction, had set up a camp near Palkhi Chowk in Bhavani Peth to spread awareness about addiction.

“We have been setting up our camp here for the past five years. The kind of response that we get is tremendous. We choose the wari as people from across Maharashtra come together to join the palkhi. We can interact with as many people as possible. We want this movement to reach out to the maximum number of people,” said Mahesh P, one of the members.

While people visit the camp to ask queries regarding addiction, the members usually guide them to a centre of AA near their residence. “For the last five years, we have seen that people who came to know about us at the wari in Pune contacted various centres in the State for further information and counselling,” said Mahesh. On Monday, AA members gave away around 1,200 pamphlets to people.
