Pune: Law students and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) protested at Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) on Friday against the alleged lackadaisical approach of the SPPU Exam and Law Department.
ABVP activists and students put forth a set of six demands. Around 52 students participated in the protest, where the students walked from Aniket Canteen in SPPU to the Exam and Law Department.
“We are fighting for our demands since the past one and a half years, and despite intimating the university time and again, our demands have not been taken into consideration. We do not understand why the university is hesitant to fulfill these simple demands,” said an ABVP activist and law student who participated in the protest.
The protesters tied black bands across their mouths as a symbol of condemnation of the deteriorating quality of law faculty and the general apathy of SPPU’s Exam Department towards law students.
Ashok Chavan, Director, Board of Examination and Evaluation, heard the demands but did not give any assurance to the protesting students on whether or not they will be fulfilled. ABVP has declared that if the demands are not met soon, the protest will be intensified. Even after repeated attempts, Chavan was not available for comment on the issue.
