Pune: An Advocate who stays in Shivajinagar is running from pillar to post for last five years to get an Aadhaar card. The woman, Madhuri Naik (50), applied for Aadhaar at least four times without success.

At a recent press conference, District Collector Saurabh Rao said nearly five per cent of the population of Pune district is yet to get an Aadhaar  card and of this five per cent, nearly 4.5 per cent belong to the urban population.

Narrating her ordeal to Sakal Times, Naik said she applied many times for Aadhaar card but is yet to get one. “Now you have to link Aadhaar with your SIM card, bank accounts and other services, how am I supposed to do that? Everyone is demanding Aadhaar these days, leaving me totally stuck,” added Naik.

The advocate claimed she approached officials of the district collectorate and wrote e-mails to Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) without any result. “I tried to enroll for Aadhaar in 2014, 2015 and twice in 2017 but I have not been informed about the reasons of rejection of my Aadhaar applications,” added Naik.

District Nodal Officer (Aadhaar) Vikas Bhalerao assured to look into the issue. “The woman approached us and we are communicating with UIDAI in the case,” added Bhalerao.

Speaking on rejection of Aadhaar, Bhalerao said often the process gets rejected if the applicant has applied multiple times. “UIDAI cannot issue Aadhaar if there are more applications for same biometrics,” he said.
