Arsonist burns 30 vehicles near Police Chowky

Pune: The vehicle arson season continues in Pune with 30 more vehicles damaged in fire in Janta Vasahat in Parvati Paytha around 1.30 am on Sunday. 

Though the police have nabbed the culprit, people have raised concern as the spot where the incident took place is near a police chowky. 

According to the police, the incident took place in Lane No. 38 near the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) run Shulabh Shauchalaya (public urinal). A drunkard, after stealing petrol, set on fire a bike which spread to other vehicles also. 

A total of 30 vehicles, including 27 two-wheelers, two cycles and one tempo, were completely burnt. The fire brigade officials controlled the fire after being informed.

DCP (zone 2) Pravin Mundhe said, “We have arrested the accused Jhabya alias Nilesh Hari Patil (25), who was under influence of alcohol when he set the vehicle on fire. He has no previous criminal record.”

An FIR has been registered against him with the Dattawadi police station.
