Autorickshaw body protests against Ola

Sakal Times

Pune: The Aam Aadmi Rickshaw Chalak Sanghatana protested at Regional Transport Office (RTO), Pune, against the taxi aggregator Ola for promoting a special scheme of auto fares of Rs 29 for four km, on Monday. The sanghatana also lodged an official complaint about the advertisement to RTO.

In their complaint, the sanghatana has asked which provision of the act gives the District Transport Authority (DTA) the power to fix both maximum and minimum fare for state carriers.

At present, the first one-and-a-half-kilometre fare for Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad is Rs 18 and it increases with every km. Ola has been advertising about its special scheme of auto fare, which saw auto-rickshaws on the platform charging Rs 29 for four kilometres.

“The RTO has acted against the company for such advertisements in the past and again action needs to be initiated against the company for carrying out this advertisement,” the letter said.

Shrikant Acharya, advisor to the sanghatna, said they had been pursuing this case for many weeks. “These advertisements are completely illegal and action should be taken against the company,” he said.

Pune RTO has also written to Pune police, asking it to take action against the taxi aggregator. “We had written to Bund Garden police to take action against Ola for promoting and advertising the low fare,” said BI Ajri, Regional Transport Officer, Pune.
