Pune, 20 February 2026: The opening of the Baner-side ramp of the integrated double-decker flyover at University Chowk in Pune has been delayed again, with authorities stating that the structure will be commissioned only after all safety checks are completed.
The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) said durability tests are currently underway. Officials clarified that the ramp will be opened to the public only after the concessionaire submits a detailed safety and durability report, which will then be carefully examined.
“We had announced the opening date earlier, but the ramp will now be opened only after the required reports are submitted and scrutinised. There is no urgency to commission the structure without completing all technical checks,” officials said.
Meanwhile, the 23-km Hinjawadi–Shivajinagar Metro corridor, also being developed by PMRDA, has successfully completed trial runs in both directions. This marks a significant step toward the launch of commercial operations.
With nearly 90 percent of the work is completed, authorities have applied to the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety for permission to begin passenger services. Officials are optimistic that the metro corridor will open in phases by the end of April 2026, subject to final approvals.
Instead of inaugurating all stations at once, only stations that are fully completed will be opened in the first phase. The project is expected to significantly improve connectivity between Hinjawadi’s IT hub and central Pune areas such as Shivajinagar, while helping reduce travel time and traffic congestion.
