Pune, 9 July 2025: In an unusual crime driven by craving and lack of cash, four young men working as painters in Pune ended up behind bars after breaking into a shop to fund a meat and liquor party. The incident occurred on July 5 in the Nana Peth area, where the group pried open the shutter of a local shop and stole ₹15,000 in cash.
The accused, all hailing from another state, had made plans for a night of drinking accompanied by a chicken and mutton feast. However, short on money and high on desire, they decided to steal instead. After looting the cash, they cooked their favourite dishes and drank through the night, celebrating their "success."
What they didn’t anticipate was the presence of CCTV cameras around the shop. As soon as the theft was reported, police launched an investigation and identified the suspects through footage. Swift action led to their arrest within a short span of time.
All four were found to be working on daily wages in the city, employed as painters. During interrogation, they admitted to committing the theft purely for enjoyment and not out of necessity. Their identities were confirmed as Sujal Pardeshi (20), Subhash Rajesh Saroj (21), Nitin Saroj (22), and Rohit Saroj (22).
Police have recovered the stolen money and seized the hammer used to break into the shop. The case has been registered at the Samarth Police Station, and all four men are now in custody awaiting further legal action.
