BJP’s Landge bags Bhosari seat with impressive lead

Camil Parkhe

PIMPRI: Ending the previous two terms tradition of electing an independent, electorates in Bhosari constituency have elected BJP candidate and sitting MLA Mahesh Landge with an impressive margin.

Landge defeated NCP-supported independent candidate Vilas Lande with a margin of 77,279 votes. Landge had maintained a lead of margin of votes right from the first round of the counting of votes.

NCP which had not fielded its candidate in Bhosari had extended its support to Lande. The Congress and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena had also supported Lande’s candidature.

In 2009, Vilas Lande, an independent, was elected from the restructured Bhosari constituency, defeating Mangala Kadam of the NCP.

In 2014, Landge as an independent, had defeated NCP’s Vilas Lande, Shiv Sena’s Sulabha Ubale, BJP’s Eknath Pawar and Hanumant Bhosale of the Congress with a huge margin of votes.

This time, Landge has won a landslide victory with the support of Shiv Sena’s Ubale and BJP’s Pawar who were his rivals in the 2014 Assembly elections.

Besides, 34 of the total 43 municipal corporators from Bhosari assembly seat are Landge’s supporters.
