Cancer patient gets new lease of life

Pune: A team of doctors gave a new lease of life to a 60-year-old cancer patient at Sassoon General Hospital, using advanced technology.

The patient was suffering from upper abdominal pain for which she consulted different doctors with no resultant relief. The patient consulted the Dr Santosh Thorat and Dr Kamlesh Bokil at the Surgical OPD. 

Under the unit of Dr PS Karmarkar and Dr GR Ekbote, the patient was diagnosed with gallbladder cancer. The surgery was carried out which involves enbloc-removal of gallbladder cancer and part of the liver lobe and clearance of concerned lymph nodes along major blood vessels. 

This procedure was done free of cost under Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Arogya Yojana. The surgical team led by Dr Bipin Vibhute, Dr Bokil and Dr Thorat successfully carried out the procedure.

Dean of BJ General Medical College and SGH Dr SD Nanandkar, HOD Department of Surgery Dr VS Dube, HOD Anaesthesia Dr Vidya Kelkar, Dr Suraj Jadhavar, Dr Manish Pathak, (Transplant Anaesthesia), Dr Harish Tatiya, Dr Yogesh Gawali, Anita Dindal, Taraka Kadam, Rahul Tambe were involved.

Symptoms

  • Loss of appetite.
  • More than 10 % body weight loss in less than 3 months.
  • Yellowish discolouration of skin and eyes.
  • Itching all over the body.
  • Pain in abdomen.
