CAP authorities too face problems

ST CORRESPONDENT

Pune: While students and parents have multiple problems due to the glitches in the website during the online Centralised Admission Process (CAP) for Std XI, the authorities conducting these admissions, too, face the challenge of explaining the process to the children and their parents.

Speaking about the challenges, Meenakshi Raut, Deputy Director of Education, Pune region (In-charge), and President of the online CAP Committee, said, “We release the guidance booklets on the website once the procedure starts every year. The process has been simplified quite a lot since it has gone online. We have zonal centres and people there explain everything to the students and parents. However, we still have issues of parents not understanding a lot of stuff and making mistakes while filling out the forms.”

She also added that students often also don’t understand how to fill the preference list. “The preference list for colleges has to be filled in accordance with one’s marks, college cut-offs and number of seats. That’s why we have the provision to make changes in the list after every merit list and also release the college cut-offs and number of vacant seats after every round so as to facilitate students to make the right choices. Despite this, we see students choosing the wrong colleges and suffering,” she added.

One of the professors at a zonal guidance centre in the city said, “Students forgetting passwords is one of the common problems. Many times, we get students from Pune as well as from outside, who have to come here, as they forget the passwords”
