Category-wise distribution of vacancies raises eyebrows

ST CORRESPONDENT

Pune: While the candidates applying for teachers’ recruitments on Pavitra portal are disappointed with the low number of vacancies declared by the government, now, the unfair distribution of category-wise vacancies has also raised eyebrows.

Among the 34 Zilla Parishads for which recruitments have opened, there are no vacancies for SEBC (Maratha) in 24 districts and no vacancies for Open Category in 33 districts, which has angered the candidates.

While 362 vacancies have been declared for SEBC in 10 districts, only one district has 132 openings for Open Category candidates.

Most of the vacancies for these categories have been opened at privately-aided schools.

“There is a possibility that the candidates from these categories can file a petition in court over the unfair distribution. If this brings a stay on recruitment, all the candidates will suffer,” DTEd BEd Students Association President Santosh Magar said.

“The issue of rosters and frauds in them have hindered the recruitment process severely and that is the reason why such a low number of vacancies have been opened. We will be meeting the authorities in the next couple of days for the same. Also, we have planned to protest again on March 7,” Magar further added.

State Education Commissioner Vishal Solanki said that this issue might have arisen as many Zilla Parishads are only filling 50 per cent of the seats due to problems in rosters.

“The rest of the vacancies will be declared in the next phase of recruitment after we have verified the whole case. It might be possible that the category-wise number may change at the time, but it is difficult to comment over it for sure at the moment, he told Sakal Times.
