Pune: Dr Vaishali Jadhav, who looked after Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) implementation on behalf of the Health Department of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has been removed from the post of Head of Licence Renewal after the PMC commissioner issued a relieving letter. Dr Jadhav continues as Assistant Medical Officer.
The responsibility of implementation of the PCPNDT Act was given to Dr Jadhav from the year 2008 to 2012. From 2012 to 2015 the work was done by different officials. However from 2015 till date the work was with Dr Jadhav. During her tenure, six people who had allegedly violated the act were prosecuted in the court.
According to the act, sonography centres should be inspected every three months. Between July and September this year, Dr Jadhav inspected 513 centres. Later six more sonography centres were inspected.
Speaking to Sakal Times, Dr Ramchandra Hankare, PMC Health Chief said the decision came from the commissioner.
“The responsibilities of implementation of PCPNDT have been split between two officials. It was a decision taken by a top official. Hence the order will be implemented immediately,” said Dr Hankare. He said the two officials from the PMC will soon take charge.
