City cops urge people not to spread rumours

ST CORRESPONDENT

PUNE: The Pune city and rural police have appealed to people not to believe rumours about Khadakwasla dam water release, bridge closure etc and warned of legal action against those spreading rumours.

DCP (Special Branch) Mitesh Ghatte of Pune city police said some people are forwarding messages with old photos, which may create panic. After rains, people were forwarding messages on social media about dam burst. “We are keeping a watch on such messages. Without verifying people should not forward any message,” he added. After heavy rains, many low-lying areas were evacuated as precautionary measure.
