Pune: Pune-based Sayali Chavan and Areeba Patel, students of Sinhgad Institutes, have been awarded scholarships by the British Council India to study abroad. 

They are among the 12 women from across the State, and 100 in the country, who have been selected by the British Council for the scholarships.

As part of its 70th anniversary celebrations in India, British Council awarded scholarships to 100 Indian women scholars. 
23-year-old Sayali Chavan has completed BTech in electronics and telecommunications from Smt Kashibai Navale College of Engineering. 

Areeba Patel, also 23, has completed her BTech from Sinhgad College of Engineering.

Sayali received a scholarship to study MSc in Computer Science from Loughborough University. 

Speaking about her achievement, Chavan said, “I was amongst the five students nominated by my college for the scholarship. I have a background in electronics and telecommunications, and now I wish to pursue further education in computer science.” 

“In future, I wish to combine both of these, work at an MNC, and carry out innovation in the field of robotics,” she added.

Areeba Patel was given the scholarship to study MRes in Cancer Biology from Imperial College London. 

“Women in 10 fields related to Science, Technology are awarded these scholarships by the British Council. To qualify, I had to answer written tests and also clear an interview. After completion of my Masters, I plan to take up PhD in Cancer Informatics. I believe that if the data generated in cancer treatment is available on one platform, it will help further research in the field,” Patel said.
