City police to appoint officer for coordination with Kashmiri students

Sakal Times

Pune: A senior police officer will be appointed as a coordinator for Kashmiri students studying in Pune, said Police Commissioner Rashmi Shukla on Sunday. She met the students at Sarhad Institute in Katraj when the students narrated their ordeal saying they often face discrimination here.

The students said that they find Pune peaceful for their education, but many people discriminate against them. One of the students said, “At Sarhad, we feel at home but outside, we are still treated like an alien. Even though I was qualified for a job at a BPO, those interviewing me suspected that I may be a terrorist.”

Shukla assured the students of all support from Pune police. She also plans to hold a ‘Know what is Kashmir’ festival, a two-day event to be held at the police grounds.
