Pune: The PMC has decided to undertake a project of laying sewage lines as well as construction of a sewage treatment plant (STP) in all the 11 merged villages on a priority basis. PMC’s City Improvement Committee has decided that the civic body will come up with a comprehensive plan for providing drainage lines and STPs for these villages. 

The proposal of a river improvement plan proposed for the rivers in Pune city was accepted by the City Improvement Committee. President of PMC’s City Improvement Committee Mahesh Ladkat said, “The river improvement plan for Mula and Mutha rivers will cover only 243 sq km area of Pune city. Out of 34 villages that are likely to be merged in PMC limits, 11 villages have been merged recently. Neighbouring villages of Pune city are witnessing rapid urbanisation. Even if the river improvement project is executed in near future, nearby areas are going to contribute to river pollution on a large scale. Hence, the suggestion has been given for sewage lines and STP for merged villages. 

“In Ambilodha basin, large-scale constructions are coming up in Gujarwadi, Nimbalkarwadi, Bhilarewadi and Mangdewadi. So after studying the current situation of sewage water coming in Amblodha, the PMC should construct STPs at Katraj, Sarasbaug, KK Market area, Kakasaheb Gadgil Garden and Dattwadi,” he said.
