Civic official manhandled by Cong workers

PUNE: Congress party workers allegedly manhandled Additional Municipal Commissioner Rajendra Nimbalkar on Monday in the Mayor’s office over the issue of tender for removing hyacinth. 

Mayor Mukta Tilak has condemned the act and the civic administration has decided to lodge a police complaint. However, the complaint was not registered till late evening. 

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has floated the tender to remove hyacinth from the river. According to Congress party workers, the PMC has awarded the tender at high rates. On this issue, they held an agitation in the Mayor’s office. When Nimbalkar began to explain the process, there was a heated argument. The workers manhandled Nimbalkar. The administration has condemned the act and has called a protest meet on Tuesday at 11 am. Sunil Kadam, Secretary of PMC engineers organisation said, “We have decided to boycott the Standing Committee meeting on Tuesday.”
