PUNE: With colleges and universities closed till March 31, to ensure students are abreast with the syllabus and there is no academic loss, Pune-based colleges have started generating e-content.
While many colleges have completed their academic sessions, some of the institutes were left with completion of a few topics.
Fergusson College Principal Ravindrasinh Pardeshi said, “Teachers are undertaking communication with students online. Previously, we had a system of e-PG pathshala which is being continued. There are different lectures and topics which were already prepared and now have been given to students. Content mainly in the science stream is available. For the Arts stream, teachers have been asked to create online content and work is in the progress.”
SNDT Arts and Commerce College Vice-Principal Madhavi Kulkarni said, “We are using a few online links that are free of cost to enable video conferencing and interactive sessions. Our syllabus is completed and revision is ongoing through the electronic medium. We have maintained a record on all the happenings.”
Modern College of Arts, Commerce and Science, Shivajinagar Principal Rajendra Zunjarrao said that while teachers of undergraduate courses have been assigned correction work of internal examination, faculty members of 23 postgraduate courses are teaching through various online mediums.
Zunjarrao also said that universities and colleges should consider variations in the answer format. “Since students will refer to different online sources, there are possibilities that their format or language of answering the papers is different. Not necessarily, the explanations and examples will be the same as taught in the classrooms,” he said.
He also added that their college will approach the head of departments and authorities of different colleges in the city to collaboratively generate e-content for students to avoid duplication of any subject.
St Mira’s College for Girls also has adopted virtual learning. The faculties made audio files, videos and lesson notes on different platforms like class WhatsApp groups, uploaded on an open-source platform and email ids.
COMMUNICATION IS IMPORTANT
The University Grants Commission has directed all educational institutions to maintain regular communication with the students and teachers through electronic means and keep them fully informed so that there is no anxiety amongst the students, teachers and parents.
