Pune: In order to rein in rising crimes against women working in the IT sector, the State government has formed an eight-member committee to suggest safety measures for them.
Pune Police Commissioner Rashmi Shukla is heading the committee, while other members include Additional Director General of Police (Administration) Dr Pradnya Saravade from the DGP office, Mumbai Police Joint Commissioner (Administration) Archana Tyagi, MLC Neelamtai Gorhe, MLC Smitatai Wagh, MLA Trupti Sawant and MLA Devyani Farande.
The Special IG (Prevention of Atrocities Against Women) will be the member secretary.
The committee will study the existing measures for safety of women IT employees in Pune and other cities, and submit its report within a month.
According to Pune police, there were 1,015 cases of crimes against women in 2016, compared to 983 in 2015 and 652 in 2014. Of the 1,015 cases against women, 354 were rape.
The police managed to crack 99 per cent of the rape cases reported in 2016.
