Pune: The Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) plans to open a new Common Service Centre (CSC) to help citizens do their RTO-related work. The move is seen as a step to stop the agents’ nuisance. The proposal for the centre has been sent to the State Transport Department. 

Maharashtra’s Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) has set up these centres across the state. In Pune around 2,000 centres are functioning and helping citizens for online process of vehicle registration and driving licences, so that these people do not have to approach agents.

Thousands of applicants visit the Pune RTO daily and complain about the agents who have occupied space on the premises.

The State Department had given an order to keep a close watch on these touts.

According to a senior official of the RTO, “We have sent a proposal to set up a CSC in the RTO premises which will help thousands of visitors with online process.”

“This will help save their time and touts will not be approached by the visitors. We have sent this proposal to the State Transport Department and we are waiting for their final approval.”

Many applicants who don’t know the online procedure, are approaching cyber cafes or agents. But RTO has asked them not to go to these cyber cafes or agents. 

“They do not have to go to a cyber cafe, as they can complete the procedure at Common Service Centres (CSC) that have been set up across the city. The State Transport Department has introduced digital services, which is a good initiative,” said the officer.

CSCs for all talukas
The Pune RTO has decided to open two CSCs in all talukas. These centres will help applicants in these talukas not to come to the RTOs. In this initiative, the RTO will inaugurate a CSC in Shikrapur in January 2, 2018.
