COVID-19 Pune: First time, single day fresh cases reported count breaches 4,000 mark

Pune: For the first time in the last 5.5 months, the number of fresh cases of Covid-19 positive patients has crossed four thousand in a single day in Pune district on Saturday (August 29). As many as 4,070 patients have been found during the day. Coincidentally, the total number of deaths of patients due to Covid-19 also crossed the four thousand mark.

There is an increase of 459 Covid-19 patients on Saturday as compared to Friday (August 28). On Friday, the count was 3,611. Meanwhile, the total number of patients in the city on Saturday includes 1,968 patients from Pune city.

Along with the highest number of Covid-19 patients in Pune city, Saturday's patient count includes 1,144 from Pimpri-Chinchwad, 655 from Zilla Parishad area, 233 from Municipal Councils area and 70 from Cantonment Board area.

Meanwhile, death of 73 patients has been reported on Saturday. The highest death toll is 46 from Pune. Other 10 patients were from Pimpri Chinchwad, 15 from Zilla Parishad area and one each from Municipal Councils and Cantonment Board. The number of new Covid-19 patients and patient deaths is from Friday (August 28) 9 pm to Saturday (August 29) 9 pm.

As a result, the total number of Covid-19 patients in the district till date is now 164525. The total number of Covid-19 recovered patients is 126949 and the number of deaths reported due to Covid-19 is 4010. Of these deaths, 112 patients were from outside Pune district.

The district and civic administration is focussing on surveying senior citizens and comorbid patients to bring down the case fatality ratio in Pune district and city. Pune Municipal Corporation has also increased testing and contact tracing to bring down the case fatality ratio. A survey of 20,000 persons with comorbidities had found that 922 were infected with Covid-19. These persons received treatment for Covid-19 in time which has helped to reduce the case fatality ratio.
