COVID-19 Pune: Night curbs imposed; micro-containment zones to be identified

Pune: The Pune District administration on Saturday declared new restrictions on night-time movement and micro-containment zones.

Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Sunday held the meeting with district health and administrative officals along with Members of Parliament (MP) and Legislative Assembly (MLAs), Mayor, Police officers to review the situation of COVID in the region.

Pune Divisional Commissioner Saurabh Rao during media briefing said, "There will restrictions for travelling between 11 pm to 6 am from Monday. People can travel between these hours only fore essential work. Vegetable vendors, newspaper distibutors are excluded from this."

"The positivity rate has also gone up to 10 per cent in Pune. Previously, it was 4 to 5 per cent. Thus, the micro-containment zones will be identified in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad and rural areas. Also, restaurants and bars will now remain open till 11 pm. The restrictions are imposed amid the rising cases of coronavirus in Pune district.

On Saturday, Pune District Collector clarified that there will be no lockdown in Pune district and people should not fall prey to any rumours. Saturday witnessed 849 new cases of COVID-19 in district taking the total to 3,97,431. On the positive side, 534 people were recovered and discharged from the various hospitals in the district.
