Sakal Times

Pune: The internal committee constituted by CSIR-NCL on Wednesday tabled the report of the fire incident which occurred on March 27 to the Management Council of CSIR-NCL.

The incident, which occurred on the night of March 27 in MAGIC PP III laboratory, caused damage worth Rs 673 lakh as per the investigators of CSIR-NCL committee.

An independent report of CSIR-constituted committee which was received last week at CSIR-NCL was also tabled before the management council.

Director of CSIR-NCL Prof Ashwini Kumar Nangia said that the committee has identified the probable reasons of fire and the likely location of its origin as per the CCTV footage.
However, the CSIR committee which was headed by a former chief fire officer of Delhi has a different view and stated that the cause of the fire couldn’t be ascertained. He stated that most of the evidence was destroyed in the fire and it was difficult to reach a conclusion in the current situation.

The Chatuhshrungi police station is investigating the case and will take forensic help if required. CSIR-NCL will also probe into the procedures followed for  construction of MAGIC building,  specifications of material used, fire and safety devices installed and the readiness of the MAGIC lab.
