Pune: Pune: What if you're told that you will get good returns after investing some amount in the share market? Chances are that you might transfer the said amount as early as possible — considering the 'greed' of the situation.

Now, in an unusual case, Chandannagar Police from Pune are searching for a man who allegedly duped a 23-year-old boy from the Kharadi area of a total of Rs 95,500 by promising him good returns on investment in the share market.

The incident took place between October-November last year. However, the complaint was lodged formally recently.

WHAT IS THE EXACT CASE

The 23-year-old complainant Mukesh Somwanshi received a call from a man who posed as a representative of the stock market company. The fraudster told the complainant that his name is Ashish and can help him make good returns after investing in the market. The fraudster asked Somwanshi to invest an amount, so that in return, he can earn well from the share market. As per the accused's directions, Somwanshi, via the online method, deposited the said amount in the fraudster's account.

After days, the complainant tried to call the caller, but he refused to answer. Despite repetitive efforts from the complainant, the fraudster didn't receive his phone. On realising that he was duped, Somwanshi rushed to the police station to lodge the case.

A case under Section 406 (Punishment for criminal breach of trust), Section 419 (Punishment for cheating by personation), Section 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 66(c) and 66(d) of the Information Technology Act is registered at Chandannagar Police Station. Police Sub-Inspector Sunil Thopate is investigating the case further.

Pune Police are continuously making efforts to create awareness amongst people against cyber-trickery. Police have urged people not to fall prey to any dubious representative from stockbrokers.
