Daund city to be sealed for 14 days amid surge in COVID-19 cases

ST Staff

Pune: Considering the rising number of COVID-19 cases, the district and local administration has declared the entire Daund city as a containment zone and it will be sealed for the next 14 days.

Daund city has recorded over 150 cases of COVID-19 in just six days from July 1. Out of the total cases, 43 are still active while 102 patients have recovered. Local administration is worried due to the fact that patients are found in all areas of the city instead of some pockets. This observation has prompted the administration to close down the entire city for the next 14 days.

Mangesh Shinde, Chief Officer of Daund Municipal Council announced this decision on Sunday. Milk distributors and vendors will be allowed to deliver milk packets at home between 6am to 9am, while grocery, vegetables and meat shops will be allowed to remain open from 9 am to 1 pm. Medical shops, hospitals and pathology labs will have no restrictions to operate.

Government offices and banks will continue to function in their regular timings. Banks have also been instructed to ensure that the ATM’s will remain functional during the lockdown period.

Entry and exit routes of the city have been sealed and citizens as well as vehicular movement will be restricted. Employees engaged in essential health and civic services will be exempted from the restrictions. Local body, police, state and central government, health department employees are permitted to travel during the lockdown period.
