Pune: The demand for kinnow fruit has been increasing in the Pune market, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Baramati market and in other nearby places, with 20 to 25 tonnes being sold daily in Pune according to wholesale distributors of Market Yard.
 
Kinnow (pronounced Keenu) is a citrus fruit very similar to orange and its harvesting starts from December. 

Depending on the quality of the fruit, the wholesale market price varies from Rs 280-500 for a 10 kg crate of kinnow, with retail price hovering around Rs 60-80 per kg. Arif Sheik, a wholesale distributor in Market Yard, said, “With the rising demand in the market, we are selling 20 to 25 tonnes of kinnow per day and we will have to get more supply from Rajasthan and from other part of north india to meet demand in Pune.”
 
“Shri Ganganangar in Rajasthan is one of the largest producers of kinnow and people prefer to eat the fruit, which peels easily and has a juicy content,” said Sheikh.
