DRM unhappy over illegal parking at Pune railway station

Pune: The Pune railway administration has set up a separate parking space for autorickshaws and two-wheelers in the premises of the railway station. Rampant illegal parking at the station has become a nuisance for railway officials as well as commuters.

Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) BK Dadabhoy has expressed his displeasure regarding the present situation at the railway station. During a surprise inspection on Tuesday, Dadabhoy found rampant illegal parking as well as garbage strewn around the station premises. He ordered the officials to take action against the offenders.

“BK Dadabhoy had conducted an inspection of railway premises after receiving complaints from the passengers. He admonished senior railway officials and asked them to take action against them. He found that two-wheelers of some railway officials were parked in the no parking zone. He immediately asked the officials to deflate tyres of those two-wheelers,” said a senior official of the department.

According to the senior officials, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) has been taking action from time to time. “However, the situation has not improved. Many of the illegally parked vehicles belong to the railway staff,” said the officer.

Divisional Security Commissioner D Vikas confirmed that most of the staff park their vehicles near the parcel area. “We have given proper space for them and already informed them not to park in the no parking zone. We took action and warned them that if their vehicles are found parked at the same spot, they will be fined,” said D Vikas.

The Pune station has bagged the ninth position in a third party cleanliness survey conducted by the Ministry of Railways this year. A total of 75 stations in the A1 category and 332 stations in the A category were surveyed by the agency.
