Eid processions to begin in the morning to avoid evening traffic snarls

ST CORRESPONDENT

Pune: In order to avoid traffic jams in the evening, most Muslim organisations will take out processions celebrating Eid-E-Milad or Milad-Un-Nabi i.e. the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad on Wednesday in the morning.

However, some groups have insisted that they will carry the procession in the evening following the decades old tradition.
The majority of the processions, about 131, will be taken out from 9 am to 2 pm. Up till last year, the processions used to start from 3 pm and continue beyond 11 pm.

DCP (Special Branch) Ashok Morale said that the community members have assured that DJ music systems will not be played though permission has been granted for loudspeakers.

The main procession route starts from Manusha Masjid in Nana Peth and ends at Santranjiwala Chowk (Raviwar Peth). The procession passes through MG Road, Sharbatwala Chowk and Laxmi road.
