PUNE: A 24-year-old IT engineer drowned in a swimming pool in Wakad on Friday. Gattuballi Bhargav, a native of Andhra Pradesh who was residing in Hinjawadi, was employed with Cognizant and had recently started swimming classes at Silver Gym in Wakad.

According to the Wakad police, Gattuballi enrolled for the classes four days ago. He drowned while his lesson was in progress. The staff rushed to his rescue, but he was dead by the time they took him out of the water.

Satish Mane, Police Inspector at Wakad police station, said, “Though the lifeguards were present, they reacted very late. It seems they were not attentive. We have registered a case and have started our investigation. Whoever is responsible for negligence will be booked under the IPC.”
