ST CORRESPONDENT

PUNE: To inculcate the habit of reading and to have some fun with phonetics, CM International School, Balewadi is celebrating ‘English Week’. Beginning from July 24, rhymes and recitations, stories and phrases were all covered during this initiative taken by the school.

An interactive session was also conducted by Manisha Desai and Radhika Pandhare of Eduplus, in association with Sakal Times Young Buzz, to emphasise the importance and benefits of reading, vocabulary building and fun with phonics.

Speaking about the interactive session, Manisha Desai said, “The school was celebrating English Week to inculcate the habit of reading among their young students. In our interactive session, we discussed with the children the importance of reading and how it helps to improve our attention span, vocabulary and language skills. Also, we conducted a 15-minute long session on phonetics, where we interspersed phonics and songs to make it interesting for the children.”

Around 200 students, from Grades 1 and 2 were a part of the session, in separate batches.

Desai and Pandhare are proprietors of Eduplus, an organisation that serves as a freelance trainer for pre-primary and primary school teachers.

“Listening makes a naïve man learned, while reading makes a learned man complete,” said Principal Rupali Dhamdhere, who emphasised the importance of reading for children.

At the event, the children were welcomed by Clifford, ‘The Red Dog’. All children rushed to the auditorium following Clifford, wherein all teachers dressed up in dreamy costumes enacted the famous classics and fairy tales for them.
