Excavation of silt from lake in Bhugaon starts

ST CORRESPONDENT

Pune: Pune Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (PMRDA) on Saturday carried out silt excavation work at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Lake in Bhugaon to improve the water storage level of the lake.

The work was inaugurated by PMRDA Chief Kiran Gitte. Officials of PMRDA said that the initiative will help in increasing the water level in the lake and also to store more water in water bodies.
Speaking about the move, Gitte said that water management is one of the major challenges in Pune metropolitan region and such small steps will help locals in saving water. “There is need of involvement from locals in such initiatives as it is beneficial for them,” added Gitte.

PMRDA has recently sanctioned additional three TMC water from dams and other water sources around Pune to strengthen supply in Hinjawadi and Wagholi by the water resources department.
