Pune, 12 June 2025: The State Eligibility Test (SET) Examination Department of Savitribai Phule Pune University has lodged a cybercrime complaint after detecting the circulation of fake news and misleading videos related to the upcoming SET exam on various social media platforms.

The SET Department, functioning under the guidelines of the University Grants Commission (UGC) and acting as the nodal agency for the Maharashtra government, is responsible for conducting eligibility examinations for the post of Assistant Professor in universities and senior colleges across Maharashtra and Goa.

The 40th edition of the SET exam is scheduled for 15 June 2025, and will be conducted at multiple college centers across 18 cities in Maharashtra and Goa. Ahead of the examination, several unverified claims and misleading video content have surfaced online, causing concern among students preparing for the test.

To address the issue, the department has firmly rejected these false reports and clarified that no such information has been released officially. A formal complaint has been filed with the Cyber Police Station in Pune, on Wednesday, 11 June at 9:00 PM. Officials warned that legal action will be taken against those responsible for spreading false and potentially disruptive content.

Candidates have been advised to ignore rumors and rely solely on official communication issued by the university or the SET portal. The department reiterated its commitment to ensuring a smooth and transparent examination process and urged aspirants to stay focused and not fall prey to misinformation.
